The Strength of Secrets

If there was a whole lot more confession of temptation, there would be a lot less confession of sin.

When you confess it with a trusted friend, the grip of the temptation lessens.

Rick Warren

Surviving a Satanic Attack

Memorize Bible Verses in areas that you're weak to prepare for temptation.

Jesus was tempted by the devil in the desert.  He quoted passages from Deuteronomy written by Moses when he was in the desert too.

Rick Warren

“I’ve banked your promises in the vault of my heart so that I won’t sin.” Psalm 119:11 (The Message)

Is Temptation Sin?

You're not responsible for every evil thought that Satan puts into your mind.

It's what you do with the thought that's important.

The closer you get to God.  The more Satan will throw at you.

“(Jesus) understands our weaknesses, for he faced the same temptations we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to . . . our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and grace to help us when we need it.”Hebrews 4:15-16 (NLT)

The Trouble with Trouble

Temptation doesn't just knock on the door, but leans on the doorbell. You don't have to go looking for trouble.  Trouble will find you.

Why should I resist Satan's tempting?

Satan is a liar.  He makes promises that he'll never keep.  He promises freedom, but puts you into bondage.

God, where am I weak?

Temptation is customized for your weakness.  If you don't know where you are weak, you can't prepare for the devil's attacks.  Ask God. Where am I weak, and how can I overcome them?

How do I overcome Temptation?

To survive temptation, it's not about strength, but being smart.  Don't stand up to temptation, but run from it.

1 Corinthians 10:13  (ESV)
13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

The Fight of Faith

In James 4:7B he said, "Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you."

In this passage, we are commanded to get our minds off the temptation and resist the source of the temptation, which is the Devil.

Why are we commanded to resist the Devil if it is God who is supposed to be the one doing it for us?

If we don't resist the Devil, does this command imply that God will step in and do it for us?

No! If you won't resist the Devil, then you are own your own.

God will allow whatever you allow.

God never blesses disobedience.

If you do resist him, then God will come to your aid. (Phil. 2:13)
